The idea for this project came in a very spontaneous way and I never imagined it would happen. At first I was a little dubious about the ideas I had for my playground. I decided to take a break and grab a coffee to reflect more on my ideas. That’s when a bee approached wanting to get close to my coffee. That’s when I thought “This is it!
I love nature and I strongly believe that one day our society will be able to grow without having to destroy the environment. Bees are very important agents for the maintenance of our nature and they pollinate 80% of all flowering plants in the world. This means that the apple and chocolate we eat and the cotton t-shirt we wear depend directly on the life of the bees.
Currently they are in great danger due to the excessive use of pesticides, which cause them to lose their nests and in many cases end up dying. Pesticides affect the navigation system of bees and cause them to get lost from their hives. This phenomenon is called CCD (Colony Collapse Disorder), which has been studied in the recent years by scientists. In the United States, it is estimated that in the past half century there was a loss of 50% of the bee population due to the use of pesticides such as fipronil and neonicotinoids.
In other words, bees are very valuable for the maintenance of life on Earth and it seems that they are not valued enough. In this way, I believe tried to represent in a fun way a day in the life of a bee with the objective of spreading around the world the importance they have for everyone.
